Some services are not covered by TennCare for anyone. Here is a general list of some services that are NOT covered.
Some NON-Covered Services:
Services that are not medically necessary. But, preventive care IS covered. Services that are experimental or investigative. Surgery for your appearance. But if you had a mastectomy, reconstructive breast surgery IS covered. Dental Services for adults age 21 and older Eyeglasses, contact lenses or eye exams for adults age 21 or older. But if you had cataract surgery, your first pair of cataract glasses or contact lens/lenses IS covered. Hearing aids or exams for your hearing for adults age 21 and older. Reversal of sterilization Artificial insemination, in-vitro fertilization or any other treatment to create a pregnancy Treatment of impotence Any medical treatment outside of the United States. Autopsy or necropsy Physical exams that a new job says you need. Any medical treatment if you are in local, state, or federal jail or prison. Services that are covered by workers compensation insurance. Services that you got before you had TennCare or after your TennCare ends. Personal hygiene, luxury or convenience items Services mainly for custodial care, sanitaria or convalescent care or rest cures Foot care for comfort or appearance, like flat feet, corns, calluses, toenails. Transsexual surgery and any treatment connected to it. Radial keratotomy or other surgery to correct a refractive error of the eye Services given to you by someone in your family or any person that lives in your household Drugs for stopping smoking, hair growth, cosmetics, controlling your appetite, treatment of impotence or treatment of infertility. Drugs that the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) says are: DESI (research says that they are not effective) LTE (research says they are less than effective) or IRS (this means that the drugs are identical, related or similar to LTE drugs)
